"Thing 9"
Here is a video that I embedded from youtube.com. I could not find a video that I likes from slide share and wanted to show off this video. I found it a little difficult to navigate around Slide share and could not really find a video that interest me. I'm not sure if I was supposed to use a video from slide share but the important part is that I figured out how to embed a video into a blog post.
This video is from the last day of school at Ida Elementary. The fourth graders walked the hall and did a dance for the whole school since they are now graduated from the elementary school. Congratulations to all the Ida fourth graders.

One of the videos made a really good point. Instead of emailing the document and having a thousand copies of the same document, you can just create a Google doc and have everyone edit it through that and there will not be a million copies.
From the little bit that I used it, Google docs is very easy to use. It is very easy to upload and edit.
One way I could use this in the classroom is to have the children create a document such as a book report. I would have them create the document and put it on Google docs so that I could look at it and edit it as needed. I would also have children go into Google docs and edit other student's documents.
To use this personally, I would create charts with all of my personal phone numbers such as doctors and schools.

Social bookmarking is a very convenient way to have all of your websites bookmarked and organized. As I was playing around with it, it seems very easy to use. With all of your icons right in your tool bar it is very easily accessible.
I also think this is very convenient because you can access it from any computer. I don't know how many times I was on a different computer and did not have the website I needed to go to because it was on my personal computer. That is a very frustrating thing to have to deal with :( This no longer has to happen with social bookmarking :)
Finally, I like being able to see what other people have bookmarked because someone else may have found an excellent website that you have not.
Thinking about using social bookmarking in my clssroom, one way I would use it is, while doing a research project. I would use the bookmarking to allow the children to go on and choose from the websites I have selected for them to research from. I would make the categories according to the topics that the children are researching that way they can go to the file that they are researching and go to those specific websites.
Social bookmaking can make life easier in so many ways

I never understood what web 2.0 was until now. This to me is very important because it is critical for children as well as adults to share their ideas. For example, If some researches something and posts it on the web, someone out there may be wondering about the same thing. This leads into why there are so many different web sites out there because of people posting there own ideas and thoughts.
I like the quote "To teach is to learn twice" by: Joseph Joubert. This quote says a lot because you learn it once but when you tell someone or write about or post something about it, you learn it again.
With my idea of having a classroom blog in the future, I think it will help with allowing the children to post about their feelings and what they learned in the classroom. This is important because they learn something and this may be a way of reflecting on what they have learned.
What is nerve racking about web 2.0 is that you have to make a conscious thought about what you are writing. In a way this is a good thing because it helps people to watch what they say and how they say it. The tone of how something is being said is also critical. I might write something and mean it one way but if someone is reading it and I did not take tone into consideration, it may be taken the wrong way.
Be careful what you post online. Someone can always see it.

It is really amazing to think how much has really changed in my short 30 years of life. Teaching and learning has changed drastically.
When I was in elementary school............... I remember in computer class in elementary school, there were very old Apple computers that would only had a couple of programs and only one game that I remember. Oregon Trail!!!!!!!! What a wonderful game :) There was not even one computer in the classroom.
Another thing that sticks out in my mind is that everything was taught on a green chalk board. Everything was teacher directed where the students had very little say. Finally, the only way to learn and assess was through print. Knowing what I know now teacher must have made a large amount of copies due to the fact of there not being many computer programs and much more print.
In the elementary schools now.............. When performing my student teaching, I got experience a SMART board and everything it is capable of. It is amazing to think that you can teach so many different thing with so many different resources. You can almost teach everything that you need to teach without even opening a textbook. As far as learning and assessing, the SMART board is a wonderful way for learning as well as preparing children for test. There are many game options to be able to review for test in a fun and engaging way. Another way of assessing children in a fun way is to use the clickers. I have not yet experienced these but seem very fascinating. The Accelerated Reading program is also a good way to assess reading comprehension skills through technology. It is nice to be able to have the students get on the computer at there convenience and take a test on a book the read. One thing that I would love to eventually have in my classroom is a class blog for parents to be able to see what is going on in the class. I will make it so that every child will be able to go on and post something on our blog. WOW !!!! The amount of games on the computer for children now is endless.
I am very excited to see what the future brings to the classroom with technology.

I was very impressed with creating a blog. With using blogger.com, I really liked how easy and very self explanatory it was to use. At one point, I created a blog but never posted anything or used it. I don't remember what I used to create it but I don't remember the process being this easy.
I have never understood what the point of blogging was so I have only explored a friend's blog once. I never had a reason to explore the use of blogs. Now, looking at it from a teacher's point of view, there are so many things that I could do with a blog. For example, creating a classroom blog to keep parents updated with what is going on in the classroom.
It is really interesting to think how many people can read what you write. thinking about that, it makes me more conscious about the wording of my thoughts. I don't really have fears about blogging as long as I continue to keep it a conscious thought as to what I am writing and who my audience is.
I think blogging will be a good way to track my progress throughout this course.
